Amie McNeel's art is inspired by formal symmetries found in natural systems. Her sculptural patterns and forms explore the dynamism of the natural world, reflecting constant and interactive change. The natural engagements she responds to are alternately subtle and severe, uniform and chaotic. McNeel negotiates the extremes of human and natural progression, shifting scale from macro to micro and working in a variety of materials (primarily steel, wood, and glass) to synthesize calculated, mathematical formulas and outcomes with the unpredictability of the studio practice. Ultimately, her goal is to expose and communicate a degree of meaning, relevancy, and complexity for the engagement of humans within the physical and natural world.
